CHICAGO -- Senior designated hitter Dominik Meyer (River Forest, Ill./ Oak Park-River Forest) belted a game-deciding home run in the top of the eighth inning as the University of Chicago baseball team wrapped up its 2008 campaign with a 3-2 win over the host Illinois Institute of Technology Friday afternoon.

Three Maroons Receive UAA Weekly Honors

CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago student-athletes have been named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today. Junior catcher Scott Hofer (San Marino, Calif./ Flintridge Prep) and sophomore pitcher Joe Pankow (Naperville, Ill./ North) were recognized in baseball, and freshman Harry Backlund (St. Paul, Minn./ Highland Park) was selected in men's outdoor track & field.

Nate Hainje Nets All-America Honors

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior men's basketball player Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) has been named to the 2008 State Farm NCAA Division III All-America Second Team. Averaging 16.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, Hainje led Chicago to the UAA championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Maroons Advance to NCAA Round of 16

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Senior guard Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) and sophomore forward Molly Hackney (East Lansing, Mich./ Lansing Catholic) combined for 31 of the Maroons' 65 points as the University of Chicago defeated St. Norbert College 65-52 in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

Chicago Wins UAA Championship

CHICAGO -- Senior forward Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the 25th-ranked University of Chicago men's basketball team defeated #7 Washington (Mo.) University 74-66 to win the University Athletic Association championship and earn an automatic berth to the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament.

Maroons to Tour Japan

CHICAGO -- After a 78-year hiatus, the University of Chicago and Waseda University in Tokyo will renew their baseball rivalry with a three-game series in Japan as part of the Maroons’ annual spring break trip in late March. At the invitation of Waseda, the Maroons will take on the 2007 Japanese college baseball champions at the Hiroshima City Stadium on Mar. 23, the Osaka Dome on Mar. 24, and the Seibu Dome in Tokyo on Mar. 25 as part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Chicago Earns NCAA At-Large Berth

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's soccer team has received a bid to participate in the 2007 NCAA Division III Championship tournament and has been designated to host first- and second-round matches at Stagg Field. Chicago makes its ninth postseason appearance in the past 12 years.

MOBILE, Ala. -- University of Chicago sophomore Marissa Lin (Irvine, Calif./ Tustin) (pictured) placed third in singles and teamed with junior Vindya Dayananda (Kathmandu, Nepal/ Lincoln School) to take fourth in doubles at the 2007 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Tennis Championships Thursday through Saturday.

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago volleyball team spent 10 days in China prior to the start of its 2007 campaign. During the trip, the Maroons toured the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall of China, and the Temple of Heaven.
