Three Maroons Named UAA Athletes of the Week

CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior wrestler Troy Carlson (Cary, Ill./ Cary-Grove), junior men's track & field athlete Jacob Solus (Crestwood, Ill./ Oak Forest) and junior women's track & field athlete Liz Lawton (North Easton, Mass./ Thayer Academy) (pictured) have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports.

Maroons Defeat Chicago State

CHICAGO -- The fourth-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team defeated Division I rival Chicago State University 4-3 Sunday at the Homewood-Flossmoor Tennis Center. Sophomores Kendra Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./ Vero Beach), Jennifer Kung (Sunnyvale, Calif./ Homestead), and Tiffany Nguyen (Saratoga, Calif./ Monta Vista) (pictured) won at first, second, and fifth singles, respectively, as the Maroons improved to 3-1 on the year.

Chicago Topples #24 Rochester 73-64

CHICAGO -- Sophomores Meghan Herrick (Cedarburg, Wis./ Cedarburg) and Taylor Simpson (Lee's Summit, Mo./ Lee's Summit) (pictured) led a balanced scoring attack as the University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated the 24th-ranked University of Rochester 73-64 in University Athletic Association play Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Maroons Complete UAA Weekend Sweep, 69-43 Over Rochester

CHICAGO -- Senior John Kinsella (Chicago, Ill./ University High) (pictured) scored 12 points and sophomore Steve Stefanou (Cincinnati, Ohio/ St. Xavier) added 11 as the University of Chicago men's basketball team defeated the University of Rochester 69-43 in University Athletic Association action Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Chicago Wins UAA Championship

CHICAGO -- Senior Troy Carlson (Cary, Ill./ Cary-Grove) won the decisive bout (see video) and shared Most Outstanding Wrestler honors as the University of Chicago successfully defended its title at the 2010 University Athletic Association Wrestling Championship Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Men's Soccer Tours Italy (8/29/09)

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's soccer team completed its fourth international tour, as it spent 10 days in Italy prior to the start of the 2009 campaign.

Softball Tours Europe (6/12/09)

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago softball completed its second international tour, a three-nation trek in Europe from June 14-24. The Maroons visited Holland, Belgium, and Germany during the 11-day tour, the program's second in five years.

Athletics Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2009 (6/5/09)

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago announced today the seventh induction class of the University's Athletics Hall of Fame. The eight honorees will be formally inducted on Friday evening, Oct. 23, 2009, as part of Chicago's Homecoming Celebration.

Kendra Higgins, Chrissy Hu Win NCAA Doubles Championship (5/24/09)

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- University of Chicago sophomore Chrissy Hu (Palo Alto, Calif./ Palo Alto) and freshman Kendra Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./ Vero Beach) won the doubles title at the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Higgins and Hu became the first Maroons to claim NCAA Division III women's tennis individual titles.

Claire Ray Nets Three All-America Performances (5/23/09)

MARIETTA, Ohio -- University of Chicago junior Claire Ray (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) (pictured) earned her third All-America award of the weekend on the third and final day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Ray finished fourth in the shot put competition with a 13.94-meter distance. Sophomore Stephanie Omueti (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) joined Ray as an All-American after finishing eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.39 seconds.

Women's Tennis Finishes 4th at Nationals (5/21/09)

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The University of Chicago captured fourth place at the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship after dropping a 5-1 decision to Emory University in the third-place match Thursday at the Collins Hill Tennis Club.

Nicole Murphy Earns All-America Women's Track & Field Honors (3/14/09)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- University of Chicago junior Nicole Murphy (Coppell, Texas/ Coppell) turned in an All-America performance on the second and final day of the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Murphy placed seventh in the shot put competition with a distance of 13.68 meters.

Swimming & Diving Trains in Costa Rica (12/29/08)

CHICAGO -- During this year's winter break, the University of Chicago men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams will travel to San Jose, Costa Rica, to train and compete in the warmth of Central America.  While there, the team plans to send a daily blog of the trip written by first-year students, Lelia Glass and Zach Lain.
