Softball / Sophomore / Shortstop / Ventura, Calif.
Kristin Lopez is a sophomore shortstop on the UChicago softball team. On Sunday, she was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team. Lopez finished her second campaign on the team with a .313 batting average, seven doubles, one home run, six RBI and 13 stolen bases on 14 attempts.
Head Coach Ruth Kmak: "Kristin had an excellent first year and then struggled a little as this season kicked off. However, she came on strong to finish out the season and topped it off with consistently stellar defense and solid hitting at the NCAA Regional. Kristin made an incredible diving catch that was inspiring, and also assisted on some plays at the plate to hold the opposition during a tough defensive stretch for us. Kristin is one of those players who is a joy to watch on the field as you marvel at her focus and 'smooth' glove-work. Kristin is quietly hard-working and driven. She sets an excellent example for our team of letting her performance speak for itself."
Teammate Tabbetha Bohac: "I had the pleasure of working in the middle with Kristin this year. The best word to describe her is solid. Her defense was awesome all year! She's the player that I always have complete trust in and know is going to come up with the tough play or be in the spot she's supposed to be. Even though the results of this weekend's regional weren't what we planned, Kristin had great games both offensively and defensively, making diving catches and some solid hits. I'm really excited that I have the privilege of playing another year with Kristin and I look forward to all the success I know she is going to continue having next season."
