Nicole VacaGuzman is a junior sprinter for the Maroon women's track and field team. At last weekend's UAA Indoor Championships, VacaGuzman achieved All-UAA status in three different sprint events. She was second in the 400 meters, second in the 4x400-meter relay and third in the 200 meters. VacaGuzman set a new school record in the 400 meters twice.
Head Coach Chris Hall: "Nicole ran the most difficult schedule for a sprinter in this meet. She set a new school record in the 400-meter dash on two occasions (first in the prelims and again in the finals of the event). She is currently listed as No. 14 in the country in the 400. She also ran exceptional times in the 200-meter dash, again being named to the All-UAA team by placing third. She is No. 4 on our all-time honor roll in the 200. Finally, she anchored our 4x400-meter relay team to a second-place finish and a time that ranks them ninth nationally. Her split in the 4x400 (56.67) is the fastest ever recorded by a UChicago athlete. We asked a lot of Nicole this weekend and she seemed to just get better with every event she ran. I could not be more impressed with what she accomplished this weekend."
Teammate Olivia Cattau: "Nicole is by far the hardest worker on the team right now and her school record this weekend shows it. She is such a joy to have as a teammate and always has a positive attitude. She ran the 400, 200 and 4x400 on day two of UAAs all within an hour-and-a-half and killed each event. She will offer congratulations to her teammates, then to her competitors and only then to herself. The team is lucky to have her, and I am lucky to be her friend."
