RULE 2 - FIELD OF PLAY
1. All games will be played in the Henry Crown Field House Gymnasium.
2. If the ball is kicked higher than the basketball backboards using walls or ceiling, scoreboard, or glass window and supports, 2-minute penalty shall be assessed.. Teams must play short until score or duration of time for penalty expires.
3. Playing area is defined as the confines of the Basketball Gym court from the floor to wall height; players may not leave the boundary lines of the basketball court. All walls except glass wall may be used for strategic moves or plays.
4. Goal area is 7' x 10' x 4' deep. The ball may not be touched in the goalie crease area. Touching the goal line or breaking the plane of the line extended in playing the ball is illegal.
5. Violation on defensive player - Indirect free kick from designated spot to opposing team unless, ball in referee's judgment would have been a sure goal without illegal defensive interference. In such a situation, the attacking team would be awarded a goal.
6. Violation on attacking player - Indirect free kick awarded to opposing team at corner of goal box.

RULE 3 - EQUIPMENT
1. All players must wear court shoes. Cleats, turf shoes, running shoes, street shoes, any shoe that marks the floor, bare feet or stocking feet are not permitted. Penalty: Without proper footwear, player will not be permitted to participate.
2. Uniforms - If there is a discrepancy, the visiting team will wear pennies. The goalkeeper must wear a jersey of a different color from his/her teammates

RULE 4 - PLAYERS, ROSTERS, AND SUBSTITUTIONS
1. Five (5) players per team (4 field players and 1 goalie).
2. Substitutions will be made on the fly, Substitutions will be made on the fly, through the doors, and may occur on an unlimited basis provided the player leaving the playing area arrives on the bench before the replacement enters the game. Substitutions are at the team's risk at all times
3. If another goalkeeper replaces a goalkeeper, the referee must be properly informed and the change made during a stoppage in play. The goalkeeper must be properly uniformed.
4. If a team violates the substitution rule for putting excess number of players on the field, a 2-minute penalty is assessed to the offending team (Designated team member serves penalty).
5. Teams may pull their goalies at any time and replace with another player according to the normal substitution policy.

RULE 5 - THE GAME
1. Coin toss - home team (first on the schedule) calls toss. Winner shall receive the choice to kick-off or end to defend.
2. Two halves - 20 minutes running time each half. Halftime/overtime breaks are each 3. Team time-outs: 2 minutes time-outs per game, each 1-minute in length.
3. (Overtime will only be played during playoffs) Tied games
a. Teams will play in a sudden death overtime session. This will consist of a maximum of ONE (five) minute overtime (first goal scored will be used to determine the winner).
b. If the game is still tied, a penalty kick tie-breaker will be used in the following manner:
i. The home team will call the coin toss to determine the first team to kick, with winners electing to go first or second.
ii. Each team shall take an initial series of 3 kicks alternately from the penalty mark. A different player shall take each kick. The team scoring the greater number of goals shall be declared the winner. If score still remains tied after each team has 3 kicks, they shall continue alternately in the same order until a team has one more goal in the same number of kicks.
4. A kick-off begins from the center of floor, on the referee's whistle. The game shall be started by a player kicking the ball into the opponents' half of the field (the ball must travel forward one full circumference of the ball). Every player shall be on his/her half of the field at the time of the kick-off. The opposing team shall remain outside the yellow lined box until the ball is kicked-off. A goal may not be scored directly from the kick-off.
5. When a player is taking an indirect or direct free kick, all opposing players shall remain at least 10 feet away until the ball is kicked. PENALTY: delay of game - 2 minutes.
6. Goalkeepers have 5 seconds to release the ball after making a save. No steps may be taken from the point of capture. If a goalkeeper maintains possession of the ball longer than five seconds, an indirect free kick shall be awarded to the opposing team at the initial spot of control (a goalie may pass the ball to a teammate who may then return the ball to the goalie, however the goalie may only use their feet). The goalie still must not hold the ball in excess of 5 seconds.
7. The goalie may use his/her hands within the entire penalty box. The goalie is not, however, allowed to play the ball outside his/her respective penalty box. Only the goalie is allowed to enter the area defined as the goal box/crease.
8. Teams exchange ends of the playing floor at the start of the second half and overtime.
9. There will be an eleven goal mercy rule used in the second half - after a team falls behind a total of eleven goals, that team's manager may choose whether or not to continue the game. The supervisor may require that the game be stopped.
10.

RULE 6 - SCORING
1. A goal is scored when the whole ball has passed over the goal line between the goal post and between the crossbar and floor, provided the ball has not been intentionally thrown, carried or propelled, by hand or arms, by a player of the attacking side.
2. The attacking team must make the attempt at a goal from the outside of the goal area. A goalkeeper may not score by throwing the ball.

RULE 7 - PENALTY KICKS
1. Any infringement of rules, which ordinarily requires the awarding of a direct free kick, shall be penalized by a penalty kick if the foul is deliberate and committed by a defender within the penalty box.
2. Note: Only intentional fouls occurring in the penalty area will be awarded with a direct penalty kick. Fouls occurring in the field of play, but not within the boundaries of the penalty areas, will be penalized by indirect free kicks.
3. A penalty kick can be awarded irrespective of the position of the ball, if in play at the time the defending team within the penalty area commits a deliberate offense.
4. A penalty kick shall be taken only from the penalty spot. All players except the kicker and opposing goalkeeper shall be outside the penalty area and at least 10 feet from the penalty spot. The goalkeeper must stand on his/her own goal line until the ball is kicked. The player kicking the ball must kick the ball forward. S/he is not allowed to play it a second time until another player has touched it.
5. If there is an infringement during a penalty kick:
6. By a member of the defending team, the kick is to be retaken if a goal has not resulted (The infringement is ignored if a goal is scored).
7. A member of the attacking team other than the player taking the kick does not permit the kick permitted if a goal resulted (The defending team is awarded an indirect free kick from the spot of the infringement).
8. By the player taking the kick, a goal may not be scored and the kicker's opponents are awarded an indirect free kick from the spot of the infringement.
9. If the ball touches the goalkeeper before going into the goal when a penalty kick is being taken at or after the expiration of time, it does not nullify the goal. If necessary, time of play is to be extended at the end of a period to allow a penalty kick to be taken.
10. If a penalty kick is taken after the expiration of time, only the kicker may play the ball. If the ball caroms off the goalkeeper and goes directly into the goal, it should be counted as a goal.

RULE 8 - FOULS AND MISCONDUCT
1. A pass or goalkeeper's throw shall not cross over the half court line in the air. PENALTY: indirect free kick at the point nearest where the ball crossed over the line.
2. A player cannot play the ball in between the basketball sidelines/end lines and the walls. PENALTY: indirect free kick for the opposing team.
3. A player shall be penalized if s/he intentionally spits, kicks, strikes, pushes, trips, and attempts to kick, strike, or jump at an opponent or official. PENALTY: offending player receives a 5-minute major penalty with no replacement and award a direct free kick. Unsportsmanlike players will be ejected and required to schedule an appointment with the Graduate Assistant prior to the next scheduled game to discuss the unsportsmanlike action.
4. Interrupting a penalty kick - The rule now states that once a player who is taking a penalty kick begins his/her approach toward the ball, s/he may not interrupt his/her movement. While the kicking player is approaching the ball, s/he may not: fake a kick, stop to hesitate, and then proceed to kick the ball. As with the other situations addressed in this rule, failure to kick the ball as specified results in a re-kick.
5. Any player/goalie hanging on the goal supports will be penalized - 5 minute major. Teams must play one short for the five-minute duration.
6. Pushing or forcing a player out of bounds. PENALTY: 5 minute major, Yellow/Red Card possible if intentional or flagrant.
7. All individuals who receive a 2-minute penalty, their team must play short.
8. Note: If a team receives a subsequent 2-minute penalty while current penalty is being served, that team will still only play one short. The individual penalized the additional two-minute penalty will serve his/her penalty concurrently with the first penalty. Exception: Any team playing with only 3 players from the start of the game will be forced to play 2 players short until one of the penalties is either served or until a goal is scored.

RULE 9 - COED
1. There must be equal number of 2 women as 2 men on the court for each team, goalie is optional.
2. Teams are responsible for the actions of their fans. Spectators may not act in such a manner to disrupt participants in other areas of the facility.
3. Players may be ejected* from a game for the following reasons:
4. Persistently disputing an official's decision, and/or failing to go directly to the penalty bench.
5. Involvement in a physical altercation or verbal harassment.
6. Upon receiving a third major violation.
7. Any verbal or physical action deemed to be unsportsmanlike.
8. For any action deemed threatening to the physical well being of the officials, supervisors, or players.

RULE 10 - ACTS RELEVANT TO MISCONDUCT OR FIGHTING
1. If any player is ejected from the game the team must play shorthanded for a period of 5 minutes. The player must leave the playing area immediately. This includes the observation areas.
2. If an ejection occurs with less than 5 minutes to go in regulation play and the game proceeds into overtime, then the team penalty will be carried over.
3. Furthermore, if an ejection occurs after the start of the second overtime period and the violating team is without any subs, then the opposing team will have the option to reduce their team by one player and compete two against two; or the opposing team may choose to have their 3 kickers go against the 2 of the offending team, whereas one of the offending team kickers may kick twice.
4. This tie-breaker option will only be given to the opposing team one time, if the score is still tied after the first 'tie-breaker kick-off', then the rotation will remain constant until the winner is determined.

RULE 11 - YELLOW AND RED CARDS
This system will be used to control player, coach, and bench personnel in regards to unsportsmanlike conduct, rough play, and improper behavior. When cautioning a player, coach, bench, or other game personnel, an official or supervisor shall display a Yellow Card and indicate the person concerned.
