CLUB ELIGIBILITY AND MEMBERSHIP

Sport Club Eligibility
The Sport Club program is comprised of a group of individuals
organized to further their interest in common physical activity through
instruction, recreation, or competition. Sport Club membership must be
composed solely of University graduate and undergraduate students, faculty,
staff, alumni, and/or their spouses. Sport Clubs are driven by their student
members and are supported and funded by the University for the benefit
of these students.
- Club Eligibility
A Sport Club must be a group of individuals organized to further their
interest in common physical activity through instruction, recreation,
or competition.
- A Sport Club must be composed solely of University graduate and undergraduate
students, faculty, staff, alumni, and/or their spouses. Sport Clubs
are driven by their student members and are supported and funded by
the University for the benefit of these students.
- A Sport Club must register an Annual Report with the Assistant Chair
of Sport Clubs office in Ratner Athletic Center, by the first week of
October each school year. Forms will be sent via e-mail to officers
listed at the end of the previous academic quarter unless otherwise
noted.
- Clubs inactive the previous year will need to procure an annual report
at the Office of Intramural, Recreation, and Sport Clubs. Complete all
attached forms and submit in to the Assistant Chair Intramural, Recreation,
and Sport Clubs.
- Every Sport Clubs member must sign the new individualized ACCEPTANCE
OF RISK form located in the mailboxes outside the Office of Intramural,
Recreation, and Sport Clubs at the Ratner Athletic Center Building.
- Sport Clubs will not be recognized if the University provides varsity
athletic opportunities in the same area of physical activity.
- Each club president is to submit to the Office of Intramural, Recreation,
Sport Clubs an updated roster filled out completely at least two weeks
in advance of the beginning of the competitive season for that club
Participant and Guest Policy for Sport
Club Programs
- These programs are reserved for University students, faculty, staff
and alumni and spouses. Guests of facility pass holders are not permitted
to participate in University Sport Clubs programs.
- Prospective students are not allowed to participate in Sport Clubs
activities. Prospective students are allowed to enter athletic facilities
upon the presentation of a "Visiting Student Pass" administered
through the Office of College Admissions.
Hazing
The University of Chicago and the Office of Intramural, Recreation, Sport
Clubs support autonomy of its student organizations within the established
rules and regulations as outlined in the Student Handbook. Initiation
into University organizations is permissible excluding any activities
that may be construed as hazing. Hazing is performing an act or insisting
another perform an act for initiation, which may cause or create an unnecessary
risk to physical or mental health. When a student organization is found
to be involved in hazing activities, the Office of Intramural, Recreation,
Sport Clubs and the University shall have the authority to initiate disciplinary
actions.
