Feb. 13, 2008
The last two UAA weekends have been a bit of a roller coaster for the Maroons.
It started with 74-60 loss at Carnegie Mellon, a game in which we shot very poorly and CMU played extremely well.
We followed up that loss with a win at Rochester by a score of 74-65. At this point the Maroons were left in a three-way tie for first at the midway point of the league schedule.
Last weekend we returned home and lost a heartbreaker on Friday to Rochester by a score of 64-63. We led most of the way and had a one-point lead with 12 seconds to go, but Rochester came down the floor and scored to seal the win.
On Sunday, however, we followed up with one of our best offensive performances of the year and defeated Carnegie Mellon by a score of 97-76.
Our record now stands at 13-7 and we are 6-3 in UAA play. This leaves us in a three-way tie for second (with Rochester and Brandeis) one game behind Wash U.
With five games to go we are right in the thick of a great conference race and a fight for an NCAA tournament bid. It should be an interesting stretch of top notch basketball to end the year.
This Friday we travel to Atlanta to play Emory at 8 p.m. and then we are on to Cleveland to play Case at noon on Sunday.
We end the regular season with three straight games at home over the last two weekends.
On a couple of side notes, thanks to our many alumni who turned out for the games and alumni game this weekend. It was an unbelievable turn out and everyone had a great time.
Also, one of our former players, Derek Reich, was recently named to the D3hoops.com All-Decade Team. This is quite an honor and I thought you might enjoy reading about it here.
Take care,
