Feb. 27, 2008
It was a great weekend for the team as we won two at the Ratner Center to set up a championship game with Wash U to end the season.
On Friday we came out strong and ended up defeating NYU 81-62.
Sunday we came back and won our battle with Brandeis, the #6 ranked team in the country, 74-66.
Brandeis had defeated Wash U on Friday creating a three-way tie for first place. It was a great win and created a tie between us and Wash for first.
We are currently 17-7 and 10-3 in the UAA. We play Wash U on Saturday at 3 p.m. to determine the UAA champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament.
If we lose, we will be in the mix for an at-large bid to the NCAAs, but the team has had the goal of winning the UAA from the beginning and are excited about the chance to reach that goal. It should be a great game.
One of the fun parts of competing in the UAA is the relationship that is developed between the men's and women's basketball teams. The women are also tied for first in the UAA with Wash U and will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the championship.
It should be a fun day with a lot of great Maroon basketball. I really encourage our fans to get there early and support the women's team also. We are expecting a very large crowd and you'll want to be there early!
See you on Saturday!
Take care,
