November 16, 2006
The start of the season is right around the corner and I hope you are making plans to join us for the first games of the 2006-07 season at the 10th annual Midway Classic this weekend.
The team has been practicing very hard and are eager to play some games. Our first game will be on Saturday at 6:00pm against the United States Coast Guard Academy. Our next game will be on Sunday at either 1:00pm (if we lose) or 5:00pm (if we win) in either the consolation or championship game of the tournament against either Earlham or DePauw.
As we have for the past nine years, we open the season with the best Division III basketball tournament in the country. The competition is extremely tough, but I know that the team is prepared to show that the upcoming year could be a special one for the Maroons. As a part of the tournament, there will be free pizzas and t-shirts for our fans, as well as raffles for a digital camera and cash prizes for our students. I hope that you can come cheer on the team - I know that you will be proud of the way the team represents the University of Chicago.
If you are coming down to the game, a bunch of fans are gathering across the street from the Ratner Center at Seven-Ten Lanes for an informal get together at 4:00 pm. Please stop by - it will be fun to see everyone there. Also, as a reminder, there will be a reception for parents and other season ticket holders in between the women's game at 4:00pm and our game at 6:00pm in the Berwanger Trophy Room. Please stop by for some refreshments and to say hello to other fans.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the tournament and throughout the year!
