Maroons win Eau Claire Tournament to reach 4-0

After winning its third consecutive Midway Classic, the Chicago Women’s Basketball team took to the road over the holiday break and took part in the always tough University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase.

The host Blugolds had only lost the tournament on one other occasion and had not lost a home game in almost two years prior to the Maroons capturing the weekend’s championship hardware.

Chicago earned the right to face the tournament hosts by disposing of regional foe Edgewood College of Madison, WI in the opening round. The Eagles featured pre-season All American Megan Scheele, who scored a game high 19 points, but she was no threat to the Maroons great depth on this night.

Fourteen players saw action for the Maroons with no one playing more than 19 minutes as they walked away a 66-45 winner.

On the next night the Maroons rode a hot 2nd half start and outscored Eau Claire 9-0 to open the second stanza and extend their one-point halftime advantage. Though the lead never grew to be too comfortable, Chicago would hold on in a tough environment to outlast the Blugolds 56-49 and capture a tournament title for the second straight week.

It was a tremendous win for a young Chicago squad against an experienced Eau Claire team that was tabbed to win the Wisconsin league title by its conference coaches. The win also huge considering the tough slate of opponents the Maroons have in their upcoming games.

UPCOMING:
The Maroons will take on #10 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday night at 7 pm at the Ratner Center. The 3-0 Warhawks are averaging over 90 points a game and are outscoring their opponents by more than 35 points per contest. Chicago beat Whitewater last year on the road 82-72.

On Saturday the Maroons will welcome Presentation College to Ratner for a 3:00 pm tap. The Saints hail from Aberdeen, SD and have won the UMAC title in both of the last two seasons. This is the first time the two schools have met.

QUICK HITS:

THANK YOUS:
Thanks to everyone who joined us on our Wisconsin trip, it definitely helped take away from the enormous crowd Eau Claire had…Also a huge, huge thank you to Micaela White’s entire family for hosting us for Thursday’s Thanksgiving dinner. The spread was unbelievable and it will leave our players talking about it for quite some time.

Hope to see many of you at a game soon.
