Dec. 20, 2007

The University of Chicago’s Women’s Basketball team has won its last three games to improve to 8-2. The team has been playing its best basketball of the season in hopes that it translates to a great start to the UAA slate after the break.

After dropping a rare non-conference game to region rival Wheaton, the team bounced back with a huge win on the road against Carthage. The Lady Reds were fresh off of two wins against Top 25 teams when the Maroons walked away with a 67-52 road victory.

The Maroons concluded their three-game road trip with an 83-40 win at North Park. All 14 players who suited up scored for the team, as the bench came up huge scoring 50 of the team’s 83 points. The team concluded the 2007 portion of their schedule with a 67-55 home victory against Rhodes College. The Maroons dominated the paint and boards and never trailed the entire contest. Junior Alex Leach led the team with five assists.

We believe our team is in tremendous shape at this time to compete for a UAA title. Contributions are coming from every position and from every class and we feel we should be a tough match-up for every opponent. We look forward to what should be a very exciting UAA season.

UPCOMING: The team is off for winter break, but will return with a home game against MSOE on Thursday, January 3rd. This will be the final non-conference game of the season. The Maroons will open the UAA portion of the schedule at Wash U on Saturday, January 12th at 1:00 pm. .

OWNING THE BOARDS: The Maroons own an astounding +15.5 rebounding margin, a mark which leads the UAA. That number also ranks third on the national list.

GOIN’ DEEP: The Maroons have 12 players that are averaging double digits in minutes played. One opposing coach has already commented that he doesn’t think he has ever seen that before….Eight different players have scored in double digits at least once this season….Five different players have led the team in scoring…In six of the team’s 10 games at least 11 players have scored.

MAKE IT A DOUBLE: Sophomore post players Anna Woods and Molly Hackney have each had a double/double once in the last two games. Hackney poured in 19 points while collecting 13 rebounds in Tuesday night’s win over Rhodes. Woods had 11 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday at North Park. Woods also narrowly missed a double/double the game before at Carthage with 9 points and 11 rebounds.

THANK YOUS: Thanks so much to the parents who have been of great help on this year’s post-game receptions. The next one will take place after the January 18th home game against Case. The Case game will also be this year’s Beach Night. I encourage everyone to come dressed in their beach attire this year! .

WISHING THE BEST: The warmest holiday wishes from our program to all Maroon parents, alums, friends, and family. Have a safe and happy Holiday season!
