Orientation to Weight Training

A single 50-60 minute session focusing on an introduction to proper use of the selectorized resistance training equipment in the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center to meet fitness needs. The sessions are available on a scheduled basis to individuals holding valid membership privileges to the Ratner Center.

Each session is conducted by a member of the faculty in the Department of Physical Education and Athletics and will begin with a brief (20-25 minute) presentation in the Berwanger Conference Room covering general principles of resistance training.

The sessions will then move into the Del Giorno Fitness Center for a demonstration of how the selectorized machines may be used to accomplish fitness goals (30-35 minutes).

Among the questions addressed in each session are the following:

  • How do I use these machines?
  • How many repetitions should I do?
  • How much weight should I use on each machine?
  • Which machines should I include in my workout?
  • How can I use these machines to accomplish my fitness goals?
  • How can I get results without investing a lot of time?
