Boot Camp

Burn fat through aerobic exercise and build lean muscle through a circuit of drills, calisthenics, agility exercises, and obstacle course work. The boot camp training method uses your own body weight as resistance to provide quick results. It's a FUN and challenging workout for those who are tough enough to follow orders and want to pack a high-intensity, comprehensive fitness session into 45 minutes.

Tennis, Beginning
This class will focus on the fundamentals of stroke development for those who have little or no experience with tennis. The objective is to introduce the sport and prepare class members to play both singles and doubles upon completion of the eight-session class. Unlike other FitChicago classes, Beginning Tennis requires pre-registration at the Ratner front desk and a course fee of $100. Registration begins on Sept. 21, 2009.

Tennis, Intermediate
Intermediate Tennis will offer a mix of stroke development and organized doubles instruction and match play. The first four sessions will focus on the serve, forehand and backhand ground strokes, and volley development. The final four classes will focus on doubles play including strategy and tactics. Students in this class should be confident in the serve and ground strokes. Students seeking an emphasis on stroke development are advised to take Beginning Tennis instead, even if they have already completed the class previously. Like Beginning Tennis, this class requires pre-registration at the Ratner front desk and a course fee of $100. Registration begins on Sept. 21, 2009.

This class is for those who have never done Yoga and those who wish to review the fundamentals. It emphasizes proper alignment in the asanas (poses), breathing practices, and beginning yoga philosophy. Participants receive personal attention and clear, deliberate demonstrations and explanations. First-time participants are encouraged to begin with a Monday class since an emphasis is placed on teaching poses then.

Yoga II
This class is intended for advanced beginners and emphasizes the mastery of the headstand, shoulder stand, and intermediate backbends. It builds strength, flexibility, and concentration with a moderate pace. In addition to continuing an emphasis on breathing and healthy alignment,training in progressive variation poses and vinyasa (hatha) flow sequencing is included.
