UChicago Athletics Preview: Dec. 12-18

CHICAGO – After a brief break, the University of Chicago basketball teams resume their competition schedules with five games over the course of the week.

 

Women's Basketball

UChicago (5-1 record) continues its non-conference portion of the schedule with a trio of contests this week. The Maroons host Eureka College (5-3) on Monday before hitting the road for a Wednesday night game at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (7-2) and a Saturday afternoon contest at Illinois Wesleyan University (4-4).

The Maroons have now beaten four of their opponents by at least 25 points, with an average victory margin of 35.2 points in those contests. Their offense is ranked eighth in NCAA Division III with an average of 82.7 points per game. UChicago's proficient scoring has led to a top-25 ranking in scoring margin, outscoring opponents by an average of 21.7 points per game. The Maroons are also ranked ninth nationally in field-goal percentage at 46.5 percent.

Men's Basketball

The Maroons (6-1 record) returns from a two-week hiatus with a pair of games at the Rhodes College Holiday Classic. They take on Monmouth College (2-4) on Saturday followed by a Sunday match-up with host Rhodes (4-4).

Offensively, UChicago is scoring 85.4 points per game thanks to a 52.7 field-goal percentage. The Maroons have been particularly successful from long range, making 42.9 percent of their three-pointers – an average of 11 per game. Sophomore guard Noah Karras leads the team with 26 treys (.464) and junior guard Jake Fenlon has 20 three-pointers (.513).
