UChicago Athletics Preview: Jan. 13-15

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago has its full complement of winter sports in action this coming weekend.

Women's Basketball

Fresh off an upset of a top-10 opponent, the Maroons (8-4, 1-0 UAA) have another nationally-ranked conference foe on tap this weekend. UChicago starts out on Friday night with a road contest at No. 23-ranked University of Rochester (10-2, 1-0 UAA), followed by a trip down to Emory University (9-3, 0-1 UAA) for a Sunday afternoon game.

UChicago is a perfect 8-0 this season when shooting better than 38 percent from the field, and 7-1 when they tally at least four blocked shots. The Maroons have only allowed two 20-point scorers all season, and they will be tasked with limiting Rochester forward Alexandra Leslie, who is ranked seventh in NCAA Division III with 23.7 points per game. UChicago's top scorer as of late has been freshman forward Taylor Lake. She has come off the bench to average 17.3 points over the past three contests.

Men's Basketball

UChicago (8-4, 0-1 UAA) looks to snap its three-game losing streak with a pair of road conference games on Friday and Sunday. The Maroons open up against No. 3-ranked Rochester (12-0, 1-0 UAA) and closes out versus Emory (9-3, 0-1 UAA) on the first University Athletic Association (UAA) travel weekend of the season.

The UChicago vs. Rochester game features the top two teams in the UAA in offensive efficiency (1.18 points per possession vs. 1.11, respectively). Some keys to the Maroons' offensive success is their 40.4 three-point percentage, which leads the UAA, and their 17.9 assists per game, good for second in the UAA. Rochester is beating teams by an average of 16 points per game. Emory is first in the conference in pace (approximately 74 possessions per game). All four of UChicago's losses have come against teams currently ranked in the national top 25 (D3hoops.com).
