CHICAGO – The University of Chicago received a pair of Athlete of the Week honors from the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday.
Women's basketball player Britta Nordstrom was a Co-Athlete of the Week following a 2-0 weekend for the Maroons. UChicago defeated Case Western Reserve University 87-74 and No. 20-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 88-39. Nordstrom led the way offensively, making 15 of 16 field goals in the contests (94 percent) for 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game. The senior forward tallied 23 points versus Case, and in the process became the 12th UChicago women's basketball player to score 1,000 career points.
Over the course of 20 games, Nordstrom leads the team in scoring (13.1 PPG), rebounding (6.7 RPG), assists (2.6 APG) and field-goal percentage (.531).
The UAA AOW for men's tennis was Charlie Pei. The sophomore won both his singles and doubles matches against NCAA Division II opponent Lewis University. Pei won at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) and then teamed up with junior Peter Leung to take No. 2 doubles by an 8-2 margin. UChicago ended up defeating Lewis 7-2.
Pei owns a 7-1 record in both singles and doubles so far this season.
