Fresh off a record-setting season, No. 9-ranked UChicago opens the year with a weekend home stand. The Maroons will welcome Whitworth University on Friday afternoon and Knox College on Monday.

UChicago returns nine of 11 starters from last year's squad that captured the University Athletic Association (UAA) title and advanced to the NCAA Round of 16. The squad set new school bests for wins in a season (17), shutouts (15), fewest goals allowed (8), lowest goals against average (0.39), points (156) and assists (52). The No. 3-ranked Maroons resume their quest for a deep postseason run with a California road trip to begin the 2017 campaign. UChicago will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, followed by a Sunday match-up with No. 10-ranked Pomona-Pitzer. In last year's NCAA Quarterfinals, UChicago advanced past Pomona-Pitzer in penalty kicks.

The stout defense tied the school record for shutouts (14) and set a new mark for lowest goals against average (0.43). The team tied the school record for season wins with 18 and reached the NCAA semifinals for the fourth time in program history. CWRU missed an extra point, and the Maroons capitalized less than two minutes later with a 46-yard touchdown pass to put them ahead for good.
