CHICAGO – Another successful week of competition led to four more University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week selections on Monday for the University of Chicago.

One of the repeat honorees was junior Max Lopez for men's soccer. The forward was previously named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5. Over back-to-back games on the weekend, Lopez recorded four goals with one assist. He tallied the second hat trick of his career with three scores against St. Norbert College, then tallied another in a 3-1 win at No. 22-ranked Carthage College. On the year, Lopez leads the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists in four games played.

Khia Kurtenbach also captured her second-straight Athlete of the Week award in women's cross country. The senior was the top UChicago placer at Saturday's University of Wisconsin-Parkside Vic Godfrey Open as she took third out of 163 runners with a 5K time of 17:51.7. Kurtenbach finished only 0.2 seconds behind the runner-up and was the top NCAA Division III runner in the field. She finished a full 34 seconds ahead of the next closest Division III finisher.

Volleyball was represented by Emma Griffith among the list of AOWs. The freshman setter led the Maroons to a 2-0 record at the Gargoyle Classic with wins over Carthage and Dominican University. Griffith put up 11.71 assists per set and orchestrated an offense that tallied a .279 hitting percentage in the pair of victories. She also contributed defensively with 4.14 digs per set. Griffith posted 49 assists with 17 digs in the four-set win over Dominican.

Ryan Montgomery picked up his first career Athlete of the Week honor as well. As a freshman cornerback on the UChicago football team, he totaled 14 tackles with two interceptions on Saturday. He was part of a defensive unit that forced nine turnovers against Washington University-St. Louis. On the season, Montgomery leads the team with 20 tackles and three passes defended.
