CHICAGO – Four University of Chicago fall-sport athletes were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week on Monday.
Running back Chandler Carroll was the UAA Offensive AOW in football for the second time this season. Carroll posted the second-highest rushing total of his career with 249 yards in a 19-14 win over Macalester College. On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the senior took on the lion's share of the offensive workload with 46 carries as the Maroons only threw 10 passes. He scored what became the game-winning touchdown on a 25-yard run in the third quarter. Carroll also surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the third-straight year.
The UAA Defensive AOW was Zach Atiyeh. The sophomore linebacker led the defense with nine tackles and a sack against Macalester. Atiyeh also added 1.5 tackles for loss for a defensive unit that held the Scots to -42 rushing yards and 220 yards total.
Mike Kurzydlowski kicked his way to UAA Special Teams AOW. The junior converted all four of his field goal attempts, including a 38-yarder. The four field goals tied the school's single-game record. Kurzydlowski also booted a 51-yard punt in the third quarter that pinned the Scots on their own one-yard line.
Agnes Lo was the UAA Women's Diver of the Week thanks to a stellar performance against Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday. The sophomore won both boards handily with scores of 284.60 on the one-meter and 269.85 on the three-meter. Her average margin of victory was 31.6 points. Lo's score on the one-meter board broke the school record previously held by Rebecca Schmidt (274.45 in 2012).
