CHICAGO – University of Chicago seniors Khia Kurtenbach and Chandler Carroll earned Athlete of the Week status from the University Athletic Association (UAA) and the Midwest Conference (MWC), respectively, on Monday.
Kurtenbach was picked as UAA Athlete of the Week in women's cross country for the fifth time this season. She won her second-straight NCAA Midwest Regional title on Saturday, running the 6K course in Rock Island, Ill. in a time of 20:41. The senior led UChicago to a fifth-place finish in the 37-team field that included 263 runners. The Maroons also qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship on Monday.
Carroll was the MWC Football Offensive Player of the Week in the wake of his final collegiate game. The senior running back gashed Lake Forest College for 236 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-13 victory last Saturday. He also caught four passes for 29 yards. It marked the second-straight week that Carroll has tallied at least 230 yards rushing. The senior concluded his season with 1,249 rushing yards, and his 18 total touchdowns rank 12th in NCAA Division III.
