Equipment Room Assistant

Description
Work study students encouraged to apply. Distribute athletic apparel to varsity athletes at Henry Crown Field House and the Ratner Athletics Center; perform basic laundry duties; maintain inventory records; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Attention to detail, customer service oriented, ability to work alone, knowledge or interest in sports is a plus.

Hours
10 per week. Monday through Friday 2:30pm to 5:00pm.

Fitness Center Attendant

Description
Work study students encouraged to apply. The fitness center attendant plays an integral part in the provision of services for the department of physical education and athletics. The primary role of the fitness center attendant is to perform general cleaning and monitoring duties. Specific responsibilities include: cleaning and disinfecting fitness equipment, vacuuming equipment and floors, wearing a facilities staff shirt, enforcing fitness center policies, attending mandatory monthly meetings, and occasionally be assigned other duties by a facilities manager.

Qualifications
Interested candidates must be able to pay attention to details when cleaning, have the ability to lift 50 pounds, and have CPR certification within 45 days of hire.

Hours
Shift 1: 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Sun - Tue
Shift 2: 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Wed - Sat

Lifeguard

Qualifications
Must be certified in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Lifeguard Training. Must pass written test and orientation program.

Visitor Control Attendant

Description
Work study students preferred. The visitor control attendant (VCA) plays an integral part in the provision of services for the department of physical education and athletics. The primary role of the VCA is to assist in the management of the University of Chicago's athletic and recreational facilities. Duties include monitoring the entrance to the Henry Crown Field House and the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center; selling athletic memberships and gym supplies; checking out gym equipment, towels, and lockers; handling reservations of athletic equipment and facilities; and laundering towels.

Qualifications
Interested candidates must exhibit excellent customer service skills, good computer skills, have the ability to troubleshoot problems diplomatically, and be responsible when handling money.

Event Staff

Intramural Sports Supervisor

Work study students encouraged to apply. The sports supervisor position is the highest level of responsibility to the program and its quality. Supervisors are responsible for the direct supervision, operation and management of the Intramural Sports program and its personnel on site; administer program components relative to the safety, game preparation, and enforcement of policies and procedures governing the program.

The following sports have several positions
Fall Quarter : Volleyball, Flag Football, Kickball, Dodgeball
Winter Quarter : Broomball, Basketball, Indoor/Outdoor Soccer
Spring Quarter : Softball, Ultimate Frisbee, Innertube Waterpolo

Qualifications
Good communication, organizational, management, and problem solving skills. Must have a knowledge and understanding sports rules and enforcement; ability to mentor and train officials.

Intramural Sports Office Assistant

These duties include communication of program policies/procedures, sport rules, team registration, team schedules/standings, and tournament results; daily sports preparation for on site supervisors; process participation reports for major team and individual sports; assist with typing and filing of intramural and sport club documents; and assist with maintenance of sport equipment inventory.

Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills; computer experience in Word, Excel, and PageMaker. General accounting and cashier work.

Intramural Sports Official

Officials are responsible for the enforcement of rules governing major team sports including volleyball, flag football, basketball, and Indoor/outdoor soccer. A general knowledge of the sport rules, rule enforcement, and on site game management; verbal communications skills to convey intramural sport program policies and procedures. A willingness to take initiative and maintain integrity of sporting experience for all.

Sports Information Student Assistant

Description
Sports information assistants provide support in three areas: (1) game operations, (2) promotions, and (3) office administration. Game operations duties include scorekeeping or scoreboard operation, public address announcing, statistics compilation, and distribution of postgame results to print and broadcast media. Promotions responsibilities include distributing posters, schedules, and flyers throughout campus as well as overseeing the operation of contests and promotions at home events. Office administrative functions include filling media requests, word processing, and historical research.

Qualifications
Strong interest in sports and a willingness to handle a wide variety of duties.

Student First Responder

Qualifications
Previous CPR/FA certification preferred, but the certified athletic trainers can re-certify.

Hours
Work a minimum of 15 hours a week. Must be available from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, two afternoons a week, as well as available on weekends.
