CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior second baseman Nick Fazzari (Wheaton, Ill./ Glenbard South) finished the 2011 season as the national leader in on-base percentage, as the NCAA released its final Division III baseball statistics report.
Fazzari notched a .581 on-base percentage to become the first Chicago baseball player since 1997 to earn a national statistics title. Fazzari batted .360 while drawing 20 walks and 21 hit-by-pitch in 117 plate appearances.
Fazzari also finished second in Division III in hit-by-pitch per game (0.75) and ninth in total hit-by-pitch (21).
As a team, Chicago narrowly missed leading the country in batting. The Maroons had 359 hits in 1,021 at-bats for a .3516 batting average. Mitchell College topped the nation with a .3524 average (413-1,172).
Chicago posted its third consecutive winning season in 2011 with an 18-12-1 overall record.
