Chicago Splits in Season Debut
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team split a pair of dual meets as it opened its 2010-11 campaign Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool.
Chicago defeated Wheaton (Ill.) College 206-82 and fell to Division I Boston College 184-112.
Three Maroons posted individual first-place finishes: senior Ed Wagner (Sheboygan, Wis./ South) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.67), sophomore Charles Du (Richmond Heights, Mo./ Clayton) in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.98), and junior Nicolas Santoro (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.27).
Santoro also teamed with freshman Eric Hallman (Oak Park, Ill./ Oak Park River Forest), sophomore Kevin Yang (Plano, Texas/ Plano), and senior James Schlabach (Beverly Hills, Mich./ Groves) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:15.82).
In diving, sophomore Bobby Morales (Harlingen, Texas/ Harlingen) set school records in both events as he placed second on the 1- and 3-meter boards (243.00, 257.85).
Chicago hosts the Illinois Institute of Technology next Saturday at 1 p.m.
