Maroons Fall to #26 Elmhurst

CHICAGO -- Featuring five nationally-ranked individuals and a #26 team ranking, Elmhurst College defeated the University of Chicago wrestling team 45-3 Tuesday night at the Ratner Athletics Center.

Chicago's lone victory came at 165 pounds as sophomore James Layton (Chesterfield, Mo./ DeSmet Jesuit) (pictured) notched a 5-4 decision over Yousef Al-Ghoul. With the win, Layton improved to 8-2 on the season.

In a matchup of ranked heavyweights, Elmhurst's Mark Corsello pinned senior Ryan Hatten (Florissant, Mo./ McCleur North) 1:36 into their bout. Corsello ranked second in the most recent D3wrestle.com national poll, while Hatten was listed as Honorable Mention.

In the evening's opening bout at 125 pounds, Chicago freshman Jake Schramm (Darien, Ill./ Hinsdale South) battled D3wrestle.com Honorable Mention pick Tom Laskowske before dropping a 5-1 decision.

Chicago fell to 0-3 in dual match competition, while Elmhurst raised its record to 3-0.

Chicago's next event will be the Desert Duals in Las Vegas on Monday, Dec. 20.
