CHICAGO -- Recently-graduated University of Chicago women's tennis player Chrissy Hu (Palo Alto, Calif./ Palo Alto) has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
A two-time national doubles champion and 2011 Academic All-American, Hu was one of 29 female spring sport student-athletes from NCAA Divisions I, II, and III to receive a $7,500 grant for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at a university or professional school.
The scholarships were awarded to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically and who were in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
Hu and her doubles partner, Kendra Higgins, captured the NCAA Division III doubles title in 2009 and 2010 before reaching the quarterfinals this past season. The tandem also helped guide the Maroons to a national fourth-place team finish each of the past three years.
During the past three seasons, Hu combined with Higgins to win 74 of 90 doubles matches, including 26 of 30 in 2011. Hu also posted a 13-4 mark in singles play this past season en route to compiling a career mark of 59-28.
An economics major, Hu has been a four-year member of the Dean's List, a three-time University Athletic Association All-Academic Recognition Award recipient, and a two-time UAA Presidents Scholar-Athlete Team selection.
In addition to her performance on the court and in the classroom, Hu has served as a corporate development intern for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois.
