Maroons Win Road Finale

BOSTON -- Senior Tom Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/ St. Xavier) (pictured) hit six 3-point field goals and senior Matt Johnson (Ann Arbor, Mich./ Pioneer) scored a game-high 29 points as the University of Chicago defeated host Brandeis University 80-66 in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Sunday afternoon.

Game Summary

  • Johnson scored 12 points in the first half as the Maroons (14-10 overall, 7-6 UAA) built a 40-30 halftime advantage.

  • Brandeis (13-11, 7-6) led for the last time, 16-15, at the 11:01 mark of the first half. Chicago outscored the Judges 13-6 during the period's final 6:15.

  • Leading 63-54 with 8:44 left in the game, Chicago went on a 11-3 run to put the game out of reach.

Statistical Highlights

  • Williams, who was 6-for-8 from 3-point range on the day, buried five of his treys in the second half.

  • Johnson was 5-for-9 from behind the arc. He also handed out a team-high four assists.

  • Sophomore Charlie Hughes (Perrysburg, Ohio/ Perrysburg) scored 11 points off the bench.

  • Chicago starters and reserves accounted for 40 points apiece.

  • Vytas Kriskus led the Judges with 19 points, including the 1,000th of his career. Youri Dascy added 15 points.

Notes

  • Williams' 18 points were his season high.

  • Johnson notched his ninth 20-point performance of the year. In two games against Brandeis this season, he totaled 73 points.

  • Chicago snapped a three-game road losing streak.

  • The Maroons defeated Brandeis for the first time in the last six meetings and for the first time in their last four trips to Boston.

  • Chicago split a UAA weekend series for the first time this season.

  • Chicago improved to 13-1 when scoring at least 80 points.
