Billy Whitmore Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Championship

WINNECONNE, Wis. -- University of Chicago junior Billy Whitmore (Rocky River, Ohio/ St. Ignatius) turned in an All-America performance at the 2011 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Lake Breeze Golf Course.

Whitmore covered the eight-kilometer course in 24:19, good for seventh-best among the 279 runners.

Notes

Whitmore becomes the fifth All-American in Chicago men's cross country history and the first since 2002.

Whitmore's seventh-place national finish is the third-best in the program's history, behind Mike Axinns' runner-up performance in 1981 and Tom Haxton's 6th place showing in 2002.

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh played host to the event.
