KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- University of Chicago senior Kendra Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./ Vero Beach) won the singles title and paired with senior Jennifer Kung (Sunnyvale, Calif./ Homestead) to capture the doubles crown at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Women's Championships at Kalamazoo College.
Higgins (pictured) won six matches, all in straight sets, capped by a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Case Western Reserve University's Erika Lim in the championship match. She defeated senior teammate Carmen Vaca Guzman (Wyoming, Mich./ Grandville) 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Higgins and Kung won five doubles matches, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Denison University's Kelsey Geppner and Sarah Short in the finals.
Higgins and Kung advanced to the ITA National Small College Championships to be held in Mobile, Ala., Oct. 13-16.
