For Immediate Release Maroons Sweep MSOE New Berlin, Wis. -- Senior shortstop Steve Ruh (Northbrook, Ill./ Glenbrook North) drove in seven runs as the University of Chicago baseball team swept a doubleheader at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Sunday by scores of 14-5 and 13-6. Ruh went 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs in the opening game, then turned in a 2-for-3 effort with a double, home run, and two RBIs in game two. Senior left fielder Mike Costello (Orland Park, Ill./ Marist) doubled twice and drove in four runs in the opener, before going 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the nightcap. Senior center fielder Frank Brown (Chicago Heights, Ill./ DeLaSalle) homered in each game, while freshman left fielder Nathan Ginsberg (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./ Dobbs Ferry) and junior designated hitter Ryan Denton (Worth, Ill./ Marist) belted home runs in the first and second games, respectively. In 14 innings in the two games, Chicago batters pounded out 26 hits -- half of them for extra bases -- including five round trippers. Junior pitcher Dan Yeksigian (Downers Grove, Ill./ Benet) went the distance in the first game, allowing 10 hits and five runs to go along with five strikeouts, to raise his record to 4-3. Senior right-hander Dan Harrington (Libertyville, Ill./ Libertyville) picked up the win in the game two, after fanning nine in five innings of work. Harrington improved his season mark to 2-3. Chicago extended its winning streak to a season-long three games and improved to 9-14 on the year. Host MSOE fell to 10-24. |
