For Immediate Release Maroons Drop Two to Rockford Chicago -- The University of Chicago baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to Rockford College Sunday at J. Kyle Anderson Field, falling 8-0 in game one and 10-8 in the nightcap. In the opening contest, Rockford pitcher Keith Miller scattered five hits en route to a complete-game shutout. Junior designated hitter Ryan Denton (Worth, Ill./ Marist) collected two of the Maroons' hits. The Regents (15-11-1) jumped to a 9-1 lead after four and one half innings in game two, before Chicago (6-14) closed the gap to 9-8 with five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth. Freshman right fielder Mike Serio (Antioch, Ill./ Carmel) collected three RBIs for the Maroons, while senior center fielder Frank Brown (Chicago Heights, Ill./ DeLaSalle) drove in a pair. Both players were 2-for-2 at the plate. Four Chicago errors accounted for six unearned runs in the nightcap. |
