Baseball Drops Two at Rose-Hulman
Terre Haute, Ind. -- In its last road appearance of the season, the University of Chicago baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon.
Rose-Hulman scored all of its runs in the first three innings en route to a 3-1 victory in game one. Freshman pitcher Dan Harrington (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) went the distance in a losing effort. Harrington (1-1) allowed seven hits and struck out four without issuing a base on balls. Only two of the three Rose-Hulman runs were earned.
Chicago scored its lone run on an RBI double by freshman center fielder Frank Brown (Chicago Heights, Ill./De La Salle) in the top of the fourth.
In game two, Rose-Hulman scored four times in the opening inning and built a 5-2 lead after three frames. The Maroons tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the sixth on a two-run double off the bat of senior first baseman Joe Russo (Brooklyn, N.Y/Xaverian), but the Engineers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take the nightcap 8-6.
Sophomore second baseman Brent Consiglio (Orchard Lake, Mich./Cranbrook) went 3-for-4 as the Maroons pounded out 13 hits.
Chicago dropped to 14-13 on the year, while Rose-Hulman upped its mark to 26-16.
