Univ. of Chicago Women Win, Men Take Second
at Elmhurst Cross Country Invite

Elmhurst, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2001 campaigns this afternoon at the Elmhurst College Invitational. Chicago won the 18-team women's competition, while the men took runner-up honors in the 16-team event.

In the women's race, three Chicago runners placed among the top 10 finishers. Senior Margaret Bradley (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) captured fourth place with a time of 12:10.5 on the 3,200-meter course, while freshman Erin Steiner (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) and sophomore Niki Voelkel (Tucson, Ariz./University) placed fifth and ninth, respectively, with times of 12:11.0 and 12:24.6.

In the men's competition, sophomores Tom Haxton (Seattle, Wash./Shorecrest) and Patrick Sullivan (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) finished second and third, respectively, with times of 15:44.4 and 15:44.8 on the five-kilometer course.
