Three Univ. of Chicago Runners Qualify
for
NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships
Rock Island, Ill. -- Three members of the University of Chicago men's and women's cross country teams qualified to participate in the 2001 NCAA Division III Championships as the Maroons competed at the Midwest Regional Championships Saturday at Augustana (Ill.) College.
In the men's competition, sophomores Tom Haxton (Seattle, Wash./Shorecrest) and Patrick Sullivan (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) earned the right to advance to the national championship by placing fourth and 18th, respectively, this afternoon. Haxton covered the course in 24:48, while Sullivan posted a time of 25:18. Chicago fnished eighth among 34 competing institutions.
On the women's side, junior Wendy Sullivan (Colorado City, Texas/Colorado) earned a trip to the national championships by placing sixth with a time of 17:59. Chicago placed sixth among 33 teams.
Augustana will host the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17.
