Country
Take Second, Fourth at UAA Championships
Atlanta -- The University of Chicago men's and women's cross country teams finished second and fourth, respectively, at the 2001 University Athletic Association Championships at Emory University.
In the men's competition, Washington (Mo.) University won the team title with 49 points to Chicago's 60. The Maroons placed four runners on the All-UAA Team. Sophomores Tom Haxton (Seattle, Wash./Shorecrest) and Patrick Sullivan (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) came in second and seventh, respectively, with times of 25:29 and 25:58, to qualify for the All-Association First Team. Juniors Jerome Tharaud (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman) and Patrick White (South Bend, Ind./Clay) garnered Second-Team recognition, after placing ninth and 14th with respective times of 26:01 and 26:16.
In the women's event, Emory claimed first place with 54 points, followed by Brandeis University with 58, Washington with 70, and Chicago with 76. Three Maroons earned All-UAA accolades. Junior Wendy Sullivan (Colorado City, Texas/Colorado) made the All-UAA First Team by placing sixth with a time of 18:37. Senior Margaret Bradley (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and freshman Erin Steiner (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons) garnered Second-Team recognition, after placing eighth and 14th with respective times of 18:43 and 18:58.
