Men, Women Finish 4th, 7th at Wheaton Track Invite

Wheaton, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's and women's outdoor track & field teams finished in fourth and seventh place, respectively, at the 2002 Wheaton College Invitational.

In the men's competition, sophomore Adeoye Mabogunje (Tamuning, Guam/St. John's) won the triple jump with an NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying mark of 14.50 meters. Senior Jerome Tharaud (Bozeman, Mont./Bozeman) also posted a first-place finish, winning the steeplechase with a time of 9:47.56.

Sophomores Tom Haxton (Seattle, Wash./Shorecrest) and Patrick Sullivan (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) turned in top-three finishes. Haxton was the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run (4:07.00), while Sullivan placed third in the 800-meter run (1:59.56).

In the women's event, freshman Erin Steiner (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:15.84, which marked the third-fastest time in school history.

Junior Meghan Cosgriff-Hernandez (La Mesa, Calif. /Francis Parker) and freshman Karin Hong (Montabello, Calif. /Schurr) were the runner-up in their respective events, Cosgriff-Hernandez in the hammer throw (37.78 m) and Hong in the triple jump (10.01 m).
