Nguyen, Gutowski Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Chicago -- University of Chicago senior Ai Nguyen (Chicago, Ill./ St. Ignatius) and junior Susie Gutowski (Northampton, Mass./ Northampton) have been named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for wrestling and women's basketball, respectively, the conference announced today.

Nguyen was cited as the co-Most Outstanding Wrestler as Chicago won the 2005 UAA Wrestling Championship last Saturday at New York University. Nguyen, who earned his first-ever UAA Athlete of the Week award, defeated NYU's Brian Benson by fall at the 4:33 mark to win the 125-pound title.

Gutowski averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a pair of league contests en route to garnering UAA player of the week accolades for the second time this season and during her career. She tallied 18 points in a 91-68 loss to New York University (Jan. 28), before turning in an 18-point, 10-rebound effort in an 84-76 loss to Brandeis University (Jan. 30). In the two contests, she connected on 15 of 24 attempts (62.5%) from the floor.
