Loni Jenkins Receives
Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award
Chicago -- University of Chicago junior women's soccer player Loni Jenkins (Avondale, Ga./Dunwoody) received an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award, presented by Black Issues in Higher Education.
The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards recognize undergraduate students of color who exemplify excellence in academics, athletics, and community service. To be eligible for the award, students must compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
A midfielder, Jenkins was selected to the All-University Athletic Association second team this past season. She started all 17 matches and tallied one goal and three assists for five points. She scored the game-winning goal against Lawrence University in the Maroons' season opener.
Jenkins, a biology major, also earned the UAA All-Academic Recognition Award.
