Two Univ. of Chicago Athletes Honored by UAA

Chicago -- University of Chicago junior Derek Reich (Niles, Ill./West) and sophomore Adeoye Mabogunje (Tamuning, Guam/St. John's) were named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's basketball and men's indoor track & field, respectively, the conference announced today.

Reich averaged 27 points and 12 rebounds as the Maroons swept a pair of UAA contests on the road last weekend. In a 77-68 win over Case Western Reserve University on Jan. 11, Reich scored 29 points, hitting 12 of 23 shots from the floor and three of six from three-point range, and grabbed 15 rebounds. He tallied 25 points and nine rebounds in an 86-65 victory over Emory University on Jan. 13, connecting on 10 of 15 field goals and four of five shots from the free throw line.

Mabogunje won the high jump competition in his first meet of the season at the Chicago Invitational on Jan. 12. His height of 1.98 meters was .03 short of the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Championships.

Reich was honored for the second straight week, the fourth time this season, and the 12th time in his career. Mabogunje was recognized for the first time in his career.
