Univ. of Chicago Pair Named UAA Athletes of the Week
Chicago -- University of Chicago junior Derek Reich (Niles, Ill./West) and sophomore Adeoye Mabogunje (Tamuning, Guam/St. John's) were selected the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's basketball and men's indoor track & field, the UAA announced today.
Reich scored 52 points and grabbed 25 rebounds as the Maroons split a pair of UAA contests. He finished with 27 points and nine rebounds in a 55-52 loss to the University of Rochester on Feb. 1, then turned in a 25-point, 16-rebound effort as the Maroons defeated Carnegie Mellon University 87-73 on Feb. 3. In the two games, Reich connected on 22-of-41 shots from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range, and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. He was honored by the UAA for the sixth time this season and the 14th time in his career.
Mabogunje posted an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational on Feb. 2. He won the event with a leap of 14.02 meters. Mabogunje was recognized by the UAA for the second time this year.
