Univ. of Chicago Pair Named UAA Athletes of the Week
Chicago -- University of Chicago senior Keith Mastronardi (Seaford, N.Y./Chaminade) and junior Derek Reich (Niles, Ill./West) were selected the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's indoor track & field and men's basketball, respectively, the UAA announced today.
Reich averaged 27.5 points and 12 rebounds in leading the Maroons to a pair of Association victories. In a 103-78 win over Emory University on Feb. 8, he contributed 30 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots in 22 minutes of action. Reich then scored 25 points, pulled down 11 boards, and handed out three assists as the Maroons defeated Case Western Reserve University 80-64 on Feb. 10. Reich was honored by the UAA for the second straight week, the seventh time this season, and the 15th time in his career.
Mastronardi improved on his NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark in capturing top honors in the triple jump competition at the University of Chicago Winter Invitational on Feb. 9. Mastronardi won the event with a leap of 14.21 meters.
