Maroons Win Three in Iowa

Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team, currently ranked 10th in the Central Region, won three matches on the road this weekend, defeating Grinnell College 6-1 on Friday before downing the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse 6-1 and the region's eighth-ranked team, Coe College, 4-3 on Saturday.

Junior Ward Bortz (Brookfield, Wis./ Marquette) and freshman Sasha Deriy (Bolingbrook, Ill./ IMSA) swept three matches at first doubles and went 3-0 at first and second singles, respectively, on the weekend. Among Bortz's singles victories was a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Coe's Ryan Yao, who was ranked 23rd in the Central Region.

Freshman Joseph Tchan (Woodland Hills, Calif./ Taft) won all three of his matches at fourth singles.

With the three victories, Chicago improved to 10-2 on the season, including a 7-1 mark in regional competition.
