For Immediate Release Chicago Earns NCAA Division III Berth Chicago -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team has been selected to participate in the 2005 NCAA Division III Central Regional at Gustavus Adolphus College Friday and Saturday, May 6-7. The third seed, Chicago (18-9) will take on #2 seed Carthage College (19-5) in semifinal play Friday at noon. Top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus (25-4) and #4 seed Coe College (23-8) will meet in Friday's second semifinal match at 3:30 p.m. Friday's winners will meet Saturday at noon, with the winner of that match advancing to the national quarterfinals to be held at the University of California-Santa Cruz May 18-23. Under second-year Head Coach Marty Perry -- the 2005 University Athletic Association Coach of the Year -- Chicago makes its first-ever NCAA Division III postseason team appearance in men's tennis. The Maroons were one of 27 teams selected to compete in this year's Division III Championship. |
