For Immediate Release Four Maroons Named to NFCA All-Region Team Chicago -- Four members of the University of Chicago softball team have been named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region team, the NFCA announced today. Junior pitcher Hannah Roberts (Scottsville, Ky./ Allen County-Scottsville) was selected to the first team, while freshman left fielder Dominique Marshall (Westerville, Ohio/ Columbus Girls) earned second-team recognition. Junior first baseman Rachel Cohen (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) and junior third baseman Kayti Fuhr (Taylor Ridge, Ill./ Rockridge) were chosen to the third team. Roberts, who yesterday was selected to the Academic All-District V first team, posted a 16-4 record with a 0.36 earned run average. She fanned 205 batters in 137.1 innings (10.4 per seven innings) and held opponents to a .127 batting average. As a first-team pick, Roberts is eligible for inclusion on the All-America team which will be announced later this month. Roberts was a second-team All-American in 2004 and a third-team honoree the prevoius season. In her debut campaign, Marshall batted .293 and led the Maroons with 12 extra-base hits, including a team-best three home runs. She shared the club lead in walks (13) and triples (2) and ranked second in RBIs (16) and doubles (7). Cohen led the Maroons with 20 RBIs and a .400 on-base percentage, while posting the team's second-highest batting average (.306). She also registered a .995 fielding percentage, having committed just one error in 217 chances. Fuhr led Chicago in several offensive categories, including batting (.331), runs (29), hits (40), doubles (8), and stolen bases (10). Chicago finished the 2005 campaign with a 25-10 record, marking the Maroons' fourth 20-win season in the past six years. |
