For Immediate Release Maroons Drop Two to Aurora Chicago -- Aurora University pitchers Taylor Petersen and Elizabeth Parker threw back-to-back shutouts as the Spartans swept a doubleheader from the 12th-ranked University of Chicago softball team by scores of 3-0 and 1-0 Tuesday at Stagg Field. Petersen (15-0) outdueled Chicago junior hurler Hannah Roberts (Scottsville, Ky./ Allen County-Scottsville) in the opening contest. Petersen allowed just three hits and fanned nine, while Roberts allowed four hits with five strikeouts. All three Aurora runs were unearned as Roberts (12-2) lost for the first time in 14 lifetime decisions at Stagg Field. Tara Zito's two-run double in the top of the fifth gave the Spartans the only runs they would need in game one victory. In the second game, Parker (7-3) scattered five hits and right fielder Caryssa Douglas provided the game's lone RBI as the Spartans completed the sweep. Junior third baseman Kayti Fuhr (Taylor Ridge, Ill./ Rockridge) went 2-for-3 in the nightcap for the Maroons, who lost their fifth straight game. Aurora improved its season record to 22-4-1, while Chicago fell to 19-6. |
