For Immediate Release Maroons Split at Hope Holland, Mich. -- The 12th-ranked University of Chicago softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday at Hope College, taking the first game 7-2 before dropping game two 4-3. In the opening contest, freshman left fielder Dominique Marshall (Westerville, Ohio/ Columbus Girls) went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored, and two RBIs. Junior first baseman Rachel Cohen (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington) and junior pitcher Hannah Roberts (Scottsville, Ky./ Allen County-Scottsville) each had two hits and an RBI. Roberts raised her record to 16-3 after posting five scoreless innings. She scattered three hits and struck out eight. A three-run home run off the bat of Hope's Megan Sheehan gave the Flying Dutch the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning in the nightcap. Junior third baseman Kayti Fuhr (Taylor Ridge, Ill./ Rockridge) went 3-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases in a losing effort. With the split, Chicago moved to 25-8 on the season. Hope now stands at 26-8. |
