For Immediate Release #20 Maroons Sweep Wheaton Chicago -- Junior pitcher Hannah Roberts (Scottsville, Ky./ Allen County-Scottsville) and sophomore hurler Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) each posted shutouts as the 20th-ranked University of Chicago softball team swept a doubleheader from Wheaton (Ill.) College Friday at Stagg Field. Roberts (8-0) allowed two hits without a walk while fanning 10 as the Maroons took the opener 1-0. She recorded her fourth consecutive shutout and fifth of the season. Junior center fielder Kara Thaw (St. Louis, Mo./ Parkway West) drove in the game's only run with a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wade (4-1) gave up just one hit in five frames as the Maroons won game two 8-0. She struck out six without allowing a base on balls and collected four RBIs with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Junior third baseman Kayti Fuhr (Taylor Ridge, Ill./ Rockridge) went 2-for-3 with three runs, a pair of stolen bases, and an RBI. Chicago extended its winning streak to eight games and improved its overall record to 12-1. Wheaton dropped to 10-7. |
