For Immediate Release Chicago Sweeps Whitewater, Extends Win Streak to Five Whitewater, Wis. -- Junior third baseman Kayti Fuhr (Taylor Ridge, Ill./ Rockridge) collected six hits, four runs, and two runs batted in as the 12th-ranked University of Chicago softball team swept a twinbill from the host University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-2 and 4-3 in extra innings on Monday. In game one, Fuhr went 3-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs as the Maroons rolled to the 6-2 win. Junior pitcher Hannah Roberts (Scottsville, Ky./ Allen County-Scottsville) pitched five innings to pick up the victory. She allowed three hits and one run while striking out six. Freshman left fielder Dominique Marshall (Westerville, Ohio/ Columbus Girls) belted her second home run of the year, a solo shot in the third inning. Fuhr scored the winning run in the top of the ninth in the second game. She singled with one out, later stole third, and eventually scored on a wild pitch with two outs. Her base hit was her third of the game. Roberts earned the win with three and one-third innings of scoreless relief to raise her season record to 15-3. She retired all 10 batters she faced, with six strikeouts. Chicago improved its overall record to 24-7 and extended its current winning streak to five games. The Warhawks slipped to 13-17. |
