For Immediate Release January 18, 2003 Women 5th, Men 8th at Grinnell Swim Invite Grinnell, Iowa -- The University of Chicago women's and men's swimming teams placed fifth and eighth, respectively, at the Grinnell College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Four Chicago swimmers -- two men and two women -- posted first-place finishes. In the women's competition, junior Emma Eriksson (Wellesley, Mass./ Wellesley) and sophomore Emily Testa (Evanston, Ill./ Evanston) led the way for the Maroons. Eriksson took top honors in the 200-yard backstroke with a meet record time of 2:15.72 and won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.14. She was also the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.69). Testa captured first place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.47), 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.69), and 200-yard freestyle (2:01.58) in addition to finishing second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:52.00). On the men's side, junior Joe Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/ American International) and freshman Dan Timke (St. Peters, Mo./ Francis Howell) claimed individual titles. Nagy won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.76 and was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.04). Timke placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:54.13), second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.18), and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.29).
