Swimmers Finish Second at Knox Invite

Galesburg, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's and women's swimming teams combined to capture second place at the six-team Knox College Invitational on Saturday.

Chicago's men's and women's squads collected 128 points on the day, placing them behind Lindenwood College's 138. Knox (69), Buena Vista University (56), Beloit College (44), and Eureka College (39) rounded out the team standings.

Five Chicago swimmers -- three women and two men -- recorded first-place finishes on the day. Junior Emma Eriksson (Wellesley, Mass./ Wellesley) and sophomore Emily Testa (Evanston, Ill./ Evanston) each won a pair of events. Eriksson won the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.28) and 200-yard freestyle (2:03.69), while Testa took top honors in the 100-yard freestyle (:56.21) and 200-yard individual medley (2:17.75). Freshman Kathleen Meil (Lisle, Ill./ St. Francis) placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.84).

For the men, junior Joe Nagy (Budapest, Hungary/ American International) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.73), and freshman Dan Timke (St. Peters, Mo./ Francis Howell) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.01).
