For Immediate Release January 25, 2003 Swimmers Fall to Carthage, Wheaton Wheaton, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's and women's swimming teams both dropped a pair of dual meets Saturday at Wheaton (Ill.) College. In the men's competition, the Maroons fell to Carthage College 156-30 and to Wheaton 143-31. In women's action, Chicago lost to Carthage 120-71 and to Wheaton 132-41. Freshman Dan Timke (St. Peters, Mo./ Francis Howell) led the Chicago men, as he finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.23) and third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:26.90), Junior Emma Eriksson (Wellesley, Mass./ Wellesley) and sophomore Emily Testa (Evanston, Ill./ Evanston) each posted first-place finishes for the women. Eriksson won the 200-yard backstroke (2:20.98), while Testa took top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.49). Testa also placed third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.50). In addition, freshman Kathleen Meil (Lisle, Ill./ St. Francis) was the runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:18.54).
