Qualify for Nationals

Whitewater, Wis. -- Three University of Chicago men's indoor track & field athletes turned in NCAA Division III qualifying performances at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Adeoye Mabogunje (Tamuning, Guam/St. John's) met the Division III automatic qualifying standard in the high jump with a leap of 2.08 meters.

Two other Maroons -- senior Keith Mastronardi (Seaford, N.J./Chaminade) and sophomore Tom Haxton (Seattle, Wash./Shorecrest) -- posted provisional qualifying marks, Mastronardi in the triple jump (14.06 m) and Haxton in the 5,000-meter run (14:41.80). As a team, Chicago finished fifth among 13 competing institutions.

Among the Chicago women's top performances was junior Clarisse Mesa's (Fremont, Calif./Washington) time of 2:25.82 in the 800-meter run, which was good for fifth place. The women placed ninth out of 13 teams.
